The
client had sculpted, in clay, the left side of a design
for a child's bicycle helmet. They
took
a mold from this clay master and cast a hard resin replica.
This model was scanned
inside
and out with various styluses that represented the different
cutting tools to be used.
This
scan data was used to backdrive the CNC mill....with
mirroring and scaling applied.
Two
different size tooling masters were created from this
model. This is a good example of
digital copy milling and pantographing, sometimes complex
geometry does not require CAD
to solve the problem at hand.
