The
client was developing a power toothbrush with some unique
attributes. They wanted to
machine
some features into the surface of the brush head.
The prototype heads were being
injection molded
in
short run epoxy tooling. The problem was that,
in addition to shrinkage,
the
machined
master brush had been
modified,
by hand, from the original CAD. New
surface
data
was needed to machine the desired
features on the prototype parts. Surface
and contour scans of one
of the molded
parts were done from 3
postions.
From this, new
surfaces
were developed
to allow
the machining to proceed.
